Elizabeth Esty released the following statement on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center:

“No one can forget the immense losses we experienced on this day eleven years ago. But when we experienced the greatest national tragedy in generations, we also witnessed the very best of our country as our firefighters, police officers, first responders, and everyday Americans gave their lives to save others. Their sacrifices will always stand as examples of the strength and resolve that define us as a people.

“Today, we keep their families in our thoughts and our prayers, and we celebrate their heroism. Let us always be thankful for the service of our brave military men and women, our firefighters, police officers, and first responders. Let us be mindful of the sacrifices made by their families. Let us always be inspired by the their courage. And let us never forget our debts to them. Our safety is secured by their service. Our freedom is a testament to their sacrifice. Let us take this day to give thanks and to honor their example of service over self.”
